Driven to Succeed
Randy grew up in the Chicago area, where he discovered the joys of the internal combustion engine at an early age. Snowblowers, lawnmowers, cars, trucks… if it had a piston, Randy would sooner or later end up taking it apart. After high school, as a member of the Air Force, he learned satellite and wideband communications and was assigned to the 738th Engineering and Installation Squadron, where he engineered and installed communication systems for the DoD and intelligence agencies. He then earned his electrical engineering degree and climbed through the ranks to engineering consulting and managing. At TEECOM, he leads a team of multidisciplinary designers dedicated to creating engaging solutions for forward-thinking organizations of all sizes.
The Family Man
Family is the ultimate priority for Randy. He’s very close with both immediate and extended relatives. Now that Randy and his wife have a newborn son, everything he does is focused on them. He can’t wait to pass on the fix-everything and self-reliability philosophy to his kids. Also, go Cubs go!
As a teenager, Randy became a machinist’s apprentice and learned to overhaul large Caterpillar and International Harvester engines. He got involved in Skills USA, a vocational educational partnership, and won first place in a regional competition. Then he won second place in the state of Illinois for gasoline engine repair at the age of 17. To this day he remains a huge proponent of teaching vocational skills to kids, and continues to advocate for Skills USA.
Why limit tinkering to engines? Randy counts home building among his hobbies — everything from heavy construction and finish work (electrical, mechanical, lighting, roofing). His real passion, however, is making whimsical furniture. He has designed and created dressers and beds that have real personalities. “I’m always looking at the ways things are constructed and how to make them better, and fun,” he says. Randy also has four patents in IoT and mobile technology which he has completed in his spare time.
