From the Pits to Project Management
Having started his telecommunications career literally “in the pits pulling cables,” Shaun brings a hands-on insight into constructability to his current role in client relationships, design and project management. He gets satisfaction out of seeing the process through from inception to delivery, from initial conversation to client hand-off. Engineering isn’t just about the technical aspect for Shaun; it’s about the interaction with people and how this creates a creative platform for success.
Love for Travel
Further afield, Shaun fosters a love of travel that started when he went backpacking around the world with a friend in his 20s. That trip started out in Orlando, Florida and wound through Los Angeles, New Zealand, Australia, Bali, Lombok, Java, Sumatra, Malaysia, and Thailand in ten months. His favorite trip since then was to Rome, where he got to see the real-life sites that he studied during his Classical Greek and Roman history A-levels.
Rugby Role Model
An interest in process and people has also led Shaun to coach rugby in his off-hours. It started when his son started playing at their local rugby club, and Shaun re-found a love for the game after playing through his school years. As a Rugby Football Union Level 2 coach, Shaun is qualified to coach the stars of the future at a top 20 club in England, and he gets in two or three games of his own a season in the veterans’ leagues.
Shaun’s two pre-teen sons are, as he puts it, are “proper full-on boys,” and their constant activities make for a busy family life. Weekends see him, his wife, and the boys out and about on a park walk, cycling, or maybe a weekend visit to Yorkshire, where they’ve been known to hire out a log cabin, with a hot tub of course, and go walking in the valleys and the hills.
