POTENTIAL

How do we make experiences in the built environment as compelling as possible? How does technology drive that experience? We’re obsessed with how people experience buildings. The rapid and dramatic rise of the technology-driven experience necessitates looking to the future of technology so that we make informed decisions about technology in the present.

TEECOM Research

Today, the most advanced technology in any building is probably in your pocket, or your purse; it’s your phone. The fact is, the trends that impact the way we design buildings arise well outside the AEC industry; they emanate from the many advances taking place across the technology landscape. In this fast-paced world it’s not enough to be up-to-date; the projects we work on won’t be complete for several years or more, which means we have to be constantly thinking about the future.

And we are.

Every one of TEECOM’s engineers obsesses about the technology in the projects they work on, but our in-house research group lives at the cutting edge. From the hottest smartphones to the latest 802.11 wireless standards, from DLP to OLED, and from Python to HTML5, we look at the technologies emerging today to understand their potential impact on the built environment of tomorrow. We meet regularly with the brightest minds in technology to understand where they are spending their R&D dollars and how those developing technologies will impact both the way we design buildings and the way end users interact with buildings.

In addition to the technology itself, the research group makes every effort to understand the ever advancing user expectations about technology. As smartphone adoption grows, for instance, expectations about where and how to find the information that will guide a user through a facility will change dramatically. Where the traditional instinct has been to look up for signs and directions, the new impulse is to look down at our mobile devices that provide unlimited personally relevant information.

The day-to-day pursuit of the research group is to explore the potential for innovation at the intersection of advancing technologies, advancing expectations about technology, and the built environment itself.
Our Research Group distills information from every corner of the technology industry into presentations that help keep the design staff, our partners, and our clients informed about the impact of advancing technology on their projects.
