Contra Costa Community College District TEECOMOverview

Contra Costa Community College demolished existing learning facilities, buildings, and parking structures to create the job site for the new complex. This project included the construction of three new buildings—the Classroom Building, the Student Activities Building, and the Fireside Building—as well as building improvements to the existing Central Plant. The new Classroom Building includes 11 classrooms, 4 computer labs, a 200-seat tiered lecture hall, and administrative and faculty offices. The new Student Activities Building consolidates the campus’ Student Life, Culinary Arts, Food Services, Bookstore, Fireside, Administration, Business Services, Research and Planning, Marketing, Economic Development and Grants, Faculty Senate, Career Tech Education, and middle College programs. The Fireside Building serves as a multipurpose facility open to the community.

Contra Costa Community College District TEECOMTEECOM’s Contribution

Classes, study groups, food, and friends are essential elements of college student life. For Contra Costa College, bringing it all together was top priority when conceptualizing the new Contra Costa Complex. TEECOM designed the integrated technology services for telecommunications, security, and audiovisual systems for this three-building complex, which connects students through centralized buildings, walkways, and roads. The new complex houses innovative smart classrooms and lecture halls with integrated display technologies and audio systems.

Behind the Walls

With the premise that smart classrooms = smart students, Contra Costa College wanted to embed smart technology systems throughout the new complex. The smart classrooms consist of a video projection system, voice lift and program audio, and media playback devices at all instruction workstations. Smart conference rooms and gathering spaces include state-of-the-art projection or direct-view display technology and robust audio systems. In addition, the culinary program’s demonstration kitchen houses overhead cameras, video display monitors, and wireless microphone interfaces that enhance every culinary prodigy’s learning opportunities.
