FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Oakland, CA, USA — Place unites people. That’s why ten local architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) firms are uniting on Friday, April 21 to plant more than 20 trees in downtown Oakland in honor of Earth Day 2017. More than 150 volunteers are expected to participate in planting trees and revitalizing the block at 401 Broadway, Oakland, California. The event will also feature music by The Santa Cruz DJs and refreshments and lunch from food trucks from Off the Grid. The event begins at 9:00am and will end at 1:30pm.
The Annual Earth Day event was conceived of and organized by TEECOM, an integrated technology engineering firm headquartered in downtown Oakland, as a way to give design and construction professionals the opportunity to act on shared values of community and environmental sustainability. Partnered with the City of Oakland and Urban Releaf, a local non-profit, TEECOM coordinates sponsorships to cover the cost of tree planting and volunteer labor.

Bringing the AEC Community Together
“Earth Day began as a call to action, and even the act of planting one tree is a powerful message that reminds us of our commitment to the environment and our community,” said Eric Solrain, Managing Principal at Integral Group, a firm which has participated in the event since 2014. “Global sustainability can only be achieved by group effort that fundamentally shifts our cultures and societies, inspiring how we live every day. Integral Group is very proud of this annual tradition that offers us an opportunity to both celebrate what we do and be of service.”
“Our future as a global network infrastructure provider relies on our ability to lead with character and commitment, to give with no expectation of receipt and to respect the people we serve and the world in which we do business,” said Rommel Santamaria, Director, Sales – Northern California and Northern Nevada for CommScope, which has sponsored the event since 2015. “As we continue to pursue smart business strategies that enable newer, faster, more effective forms of communication, we’ll also do our best to protect the future of our people and our planet.”
BKF Engineers has also participated in the event since 2015. “At BKF, we go beyond the simple formula, ‘reduce, reuse, recycle,’” said Devon Kurcina, Director of Business Development & Marketing. “We are committed to greener infrastructure for our future generations to thrive in. Earth Day means we are enforcing these values, company and community wide. We are thrilled to be a part of this year’s 2017 annual TEECOM Earth Day event to remind us to take care of our planet. Grab a shovel, and dig in!”
This year’s Earth Day Tree Planting supports the Earth Day Network Environmental & Climate Literacy campaign, educating participants about the benefits of trees in an urban setting.
