AstraZeneca San Francisco Relocation

South San Francisco, California

Overview

AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals’ new facility brings together Bay Area employees from five business units (Medimmune, Pearl, ZS, GMD and IT) to advance scientific innovation. The new vibrant and stimulating hub provides office, laboratory, and manufacturing space that brings teams together to improve collaboration and unlock potential through the design of the working environment. The design puts science on display through transparent, integrated lab, office, and public spaces. Glass-fronted labs allow employees and visitors to view research activities from the public spaces.

TEECOM’s Solutions

TEECOM used AstraZeneca’s iWORK strategy to enable the optimum utilization of available space with more efficiency and help to create a more collaborative, vibrant working environment to achieve the science-driven, patient-focused culture and mindset that AstraZeneca is seeking to build across all parts of the company. TEECOM provided design services for telecommunications, audiovisual, electronic security, and acoustical engineering. Telecommunication systems included telecom rooms, building pathways, and structured cabling. Audiovisual systems included presentation, collaboration, audio distribution, digital signage, and video conferencing systems. Security systems included Access Control and Alarm Monitoring (ACAMS) and Video Surveillance Systems (VSS). Acoustical engineering included room acoustics, sound isolation, and MEP noise control.

Benefit to the Client or Lessons Learned

AstraZeneca’s goal was to achieve collaborative work environments with large conference rooms on the first floor and telepresence on the upper levels. As the project progressed, AstraZeneca requested additional medium sized conference rooms to replace a portion of the telepresence rooms on the upper levels as well as a change in quantities for room schedulers. TEECOM’s integrative approach to design allowed all the discipline leaders to collaboratively address the change in design, including speech privacy, presentation systems, and security details while optimizing utilization of available space and working within the iWORK strategy.
