Santa Clara Valley Medical Center Sobrato Pavilion
San Jose, CA
Overview
The 370,000 sf Sobrato Pavilion, a new building at the main campus of the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, provides burn and trauma patients a tranquil and technologically advanced rehabilitation setting. The Pavilion adds 168 private patient beds and an expanded 32-bed Intensive Care Unit to treat patients with a variety of injuries. A focus for the new building was to incorporate the most state-of-the-art technological tools to speed recovery and support research, including interactive and networked devices to treat patients recovering from stroke, a gait and balance training system with wearable sensors, and a therapy pool with a computerized underwater treadmill that allows clinicians to monitor patients via an underwater camera system.
TEECOM’s Solutions
TEECOM provided telecommunications, security systems, and audiovisual design for the new building. These high-performance systems allow the hospital to function as an integrated care facility, supporting therapies, communication, and record-keeping. Inside the new patient rooms are television screens which link to a tablet with the MyChart Bedside app for patients. The app allows patients to interact with hospital staff, see their diagnosis, what medications they’re taking and a schedule of upcoming appointments. All of this technology requires a flexible IT infrastructure to function. Concurrent with the new building’s construction, TEECOM led the replacement of SVCMC’s entire existing security systems, access control, and video surveillance.
Benefit to the Client
With a telecommunications infrastructure designed to sustain changes in technology for many years, and the security and audiovisual systems to communicate with and keep patients safe, the Sobrato Pavilion elevates care for patients recovering from acute injuries to a world-class level. In addition, it puts Valley Medical Center in a good position to attract and retain the most talented caregivers and researchers. The project achieved LEED Gold certification.
