UC Merced Classroom and Office Building 2
Merced, CA
Overview
To advance UC Merced’s ambitious goals for interdisciplinary instruction and research, TEECOM developed a robust telecom infrastructure, audiovisual array, and security systems for the new three-story COB 2. Classrooms, tutorial spaces, research labs, space for scholarly activities, and academic and administrative offices are all primed for collaboration and immersion.

TEECOM’s Solutions
TEECOM designed state-of-the-art presentation systems for each lecture room and classroom. A 90-seat Technology Enabled Active Learning (TEAL) classroom facilitates active learning, in which students work in small groups with shared technology and instructors coordinate group activities.

Benefit to the Client
The COB 2’s high-performance technology capabilities power a WAVE (Wide-Area Visualization Environment), an immersive, interactive virtual reality space that incorporates 20 screens, 3-D technology, and 4K resolution. UC Merced researchers use the WAVE, the highest-resolution of its kind in the world, to visualize and interact with their work and to enhance their teaching. As part of the Pacific Research Platform, the WAVE also enables UC Merced researchers to access visualizations from other, similar installations around the world.
