University of the Pacific (UoP) Dugoni School of Dentistry
San Francisco, CA
Overview
The Dugoni School of Dentistry has been training dentists for over 100 years, averaging 500 students each school year. In 2011 the University of the Pacific established a new campus in the South of Market (SoMa) district in San Francisco. This seven-story, 395,000 sf building underwent an extensive renovation that included a complete replacement of the building’s exteriors and interior spaces. The new building houses the University’s Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry that includes clinics, laboratories, lecture classrooms and halls, seminar rooms, meeting rooms, and administrative work spaces.

TEECOM’s Contribution
TEECOM provided integrated technology services for telecommunications, security, network, and audiovisual systems. TEECOM designed and coordinated the audiovisual systems and digital signage in the new 200-seat divisible lecture hall, seminar rooms, huddle rooms, simulation labs, research lab collaboration spaces, clinical operatories, conference rooms, and the cafe. From the conceptual phase, TEECOM led the visioning of technology within the new dental school. In order to stay within the architectural confinement of the space, each classroom can be utilized for multiple functions, providing flexibility and accommodation to all professors and instructors.

Behind the Walls
The new facility leverages a building-wide centralized audiovisual and telecommunications infrastructure. Through this system, each of the teaching and learning classrooms, including both Technology Enabled Active Learning (TEAL) rooms, has the ability to connect to any room throughout the building, as well as facilities around the world. Extending the classroom in real-time allows professors and end users to expand the size of any classroom for an interactive collaboration experience with field experts around the world and to offer lessons to far away regions.
