Putting the Infrastructure in Design
Austin earned his electrical engineering degree in power systems from Chico State University and transitioned into telecom design. His curiosity about how infrastructure is built into design and his desire for a more flexible work process led him to TEECOM. As a designer, Austin is determined to learn from his mentors and enjoys the collaboration his work requires to produce high-quality deliverables.
Austin grew up in the small town of Groveland, California, near Yosemite National Park, with a graduating class of only 12 people! Being surrounded by the Sierra Nevada mountains and giant sequoia trees made him accustomed to spending time in nature. In his free time, Austin enjoys camping with his girlfriend and roommates. An ideal place to touch base for Austin is by the water, where he can go fishing and cook his catch over some tinfoil. He most recently explored Big Sur campgrounds and plans to visit Lake Trinity for his next camping adventure.
Beats, Rests, and Repeats
Although it was his parents who ushered him into piano lessons at the age of six, Austin continued to practice and progress his musical skills. He most enjoys playing classical music and experiments with tunes when he can. Austin finds the sound of the piano calming and satisfying and likes to create melodies that are pleasant to the ears. He believes that playing the piano is a mathematical process, from reading musical notes to picking up on patterns such as sharps and flats. The complexity of a piano makes it incredibly versatile to Austin, as one can play a whole solo and have it sound great. Austin’s favorite songs to currently play are the “Game of Thrones” theme song and “Light of the Seven.”
Pick and Roll
Austin’s preferred form of exercise is playing sports. Sports are second nature, as he grew up participating in them. Austin plays pick-up basketball during lunch every day and says it’s a great way to break up the day, fit in time to exercise, and maintain his energy. He leads TEECOM’s annual summer softball league, where we join similar engineering firms for some friendly competition.
