Language of Technology
As a software developer on the TEECOM Research and Development TEEm, Tom creates apps for buildings. Seeing a product grow from the ground up is what he enjoys most about programming. The skill combines language and technology, two of Tom’s main interests. Tom has always had an affinity for knowing how things work. To this day, he challenges himself to take apart electronics and put them back together again.
Tom is an old soul when it comes to his music preferences. Some of his favorites are Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, and the Beatles. He particularly loves jamming out to the blues and old rock bands. While he does own a few vinyls, The Who and The Beatles, Tom mainly listens to music on Spotify.
Flying runs in the family. With a pilot Dad, Tom grew up around planes. Whether he is zooming by on his glider or power flight, flying is an exhilarating getaway that allows Tom to see the world from a different perspective. He recently experienced adrenalin-pumping aerobatics for his first time–no doubt, the flight of his life.
Not only does Tommy understand and read German and Latin, he also enjoys studying the history, origins, and use of language, and ultimately how it shapes our thoughts. Tom’s initial interest in speaking German arose when his brother and sister-in-law moved to Berlin. He visited one summer and got in touch with his German roots (he’s also half Irish). Having studied Latin most of his life, Tom can impressively read excerpts of Virgil and other distinguished Latin authors.
